Launch of First Phase of ‘Census 2027’ in Uttarakhand; Governor and Chief Minister Begin with Self-Enumeration

Dehradun.The first phase of Census 2027 was formally launched in Uttarakhand on Friday. On this occasion, Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Gurmit Singh, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and Cabinet Minister Madan Kaushik initiated the Self-Enumeration process by digitally submitting their information.
Under this programme, the Houselisting and Housing Census work has commenced across the state from today. As part of the Digital India initiative, citizens are being provided, for the first time, the facility to self-enumerate by filling in their details online through the portal (se.census.gov.in) before the visit of census officials.
The self-enumeration facility will be available from 10 April to 24 April 2026. Thereafter, from 25 April to 24 May 2026, enumerators will conduct door-to-door data collection.
On this occasion, the Governor stated that the census is not merely a collection of data but the foundation for the state’s development. He appealed to citizens to actively participate in this important exercise through self-enumeration to ensure accuracy and reliability of data.
The Chief Minister stated that accurate data obtained from the census would help the government formulate better policies and ensure that benefits of schemes reach the last mile. He urged the people of the state to join hands with the census mascots ‘Pragati’ and ‘Vikas’ to make this campaign successful.
The Cabinet Minister (Census), Government of Uttarakhand, also appealed to the public to actively participate in this nationally significant exercise.
Key Information: In the first phase, citizens will be required to answer 33 questions related to housing conditions, available amenities (such as electricity, water, toilets, etc.), and assets. Citizens who complete self-enumeration will receive a unique SE ID, which must be shared with the enumerator during their visit.
For this exercise, approximately 30,000 enumerators and supervisors have been deployed across the state. The Government of Uttarakhand has requested all citizens to extend full cooperation to census officials and make maximum use of the self-enumeration facility to contribute to the state’s development.
On this occasion, Director of Census Operations, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, Eva Ashish Srivastava, Census Secretary, Government of Uttarakhand, Deepak Kumar, Joint Director S.S. Negi, Deputy Directors Praveen Kumar, Tanya Seth, R.K. Banwari, Devashish, and other officials were present.
